The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
